Baseball America Predicts Intriguing Seattle Mariners Lineup For 2028

The Seattle Mariners have one of the most impressive minor league systems in MLB. The organization boasted eight players on Baseball America's top 100 prospects list, more than any team in the major leagues. MLB Pipeline also listed five Mariners prospects on their roster.

Seattle The farm system could come to fruition as soon as 2025, with outfielder Cole Young expected to factor into the team's major league plans at some point. Mariners MVP Logan Evans is also expected to get a look in the big leagues at some point.

Baseball America has released its updated roster Of Seattle's top 10 prospects on Thursday. And with their roster, they included a projection of what they expect the lineup to look like in 2028.

Baseball America expects the lineup to look almost completely different, with catcher Cal Raleigh and franchise star Julio Rodriguez the only ones remaining from the current roster.

Here's how Baseball America predicts the standings will shake out:

Catcher: Cal Raleigh
First base: Tyler Locklear
Second base: Michael Arroyo
Third base: Colt Emerson
Shortstop: Cole Young
Left field: Harry Ford
Center field: Johnny Farmelo
Right field: Julio Rodriguez
Designated hitter: Lázaro Montes

Conversely, Baseball America expects the pitching rotation to remain roughly the same except for one pitcher:

Rookie No. 1: George Kirby
Starter No. 2: Logan Gilbert
Rookie No. 3: Brian Waugh
Rookie No. 4: Bryce Miller
Starting No. 5: Logan Evans
Closer: Andres Munoz

Projections expect the rotation starting in 2024 to remain intact barring Evans taking over for veteran Luis Castillo.

It should be noted that the projections come with the caveat that the Mariners are not making any other moves or deals from outside the organization.

There is also an assumption that Seattle will retain all of their top prospects and they will all be promoted to the majors, or not traded away.

There are also some takeaways from the forecast. The first thing is that, in the hypothetical 2028 standings, Raleigh is the only player over the age of 27. Kirby and Gilbert will also be the only starters in the rotation who are 30 or older.

Projections also expect Rodriguez to move from center field to right field.

Baseball America has Ford making the move from catcher to left field, Farmelo taking over for Rodriguez in center field, and Montes to play in the majors as a designated hitter. Montes played outfield during his time in the minor leagues.

Not all of the prospects in Baseball America's projections are likely to reach the majors with the team. But if half of them have the success the publication predicts, the Mariners' future is in good shape.
