Middlesbrough have received an offer worth up to £20 million for striker Emmanuel Latte Lath from MLS side Atlanta United.
The offer includes add-ons and would potentially be a new record price for MLS.
Leeds United, Ipswich Town and West Ham have all expressed interest in Latte Lath but it was Atlanta who made the first move with their substantial offer.
Boro are yet to accept and acknowledge the importance of Latte Lath’s goals in their promotion bid.
The 26-year-old joined Boro from Italian club Atalanta and has scored ten goals in 26 games this season.
The Ivory Coast international is set to move to the United States, but is expected to join a Premier League side this summer.
Atlanta United bid worth up to £20m for Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath
Leeds United, Ipswich Town and West Ham have all expressed interest in the Ivorian striker.
Ipswich Town failed in their bid to sign Latte this summer while West Ham want a striker amid injuries to Niclas Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio.
Graham Potter has confirmed that £27m summer striker Fullkrug, who missed three months earlier in the season with an Achilles problem, appears to have suffered another injury serious after Friday’s FA Cup defeat against Aston Villa.
“It’s a pretty serious hamstring when you stop like that, so it’s a worry for us,” Potter added. “We have to evaluate it. Crysencio (Summerville) fell back a bit, we didn’t think it was worth the risk to continue.
The Hammers boss also admitted that the loss of two key strikers to injury could mean the club would have to hit the transfer market this month, but he would not be drawn on rumors linking the club with a move to disgraced Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford.
“We need to see the extent of the injuries and see how long it will take for guys to come back,” Potter said. “We don’t know the extent. If this information is released, it’s something we need to look into.
“I said this about 20 months ago, I only comment on players who are West Ham players. Sometimes things written in the newspapers are not always true and you can get yourself into difficulties by confirming and denying everything. This is the group that is doing well collectively. There is no shortage of talent in this club.
Meanwhile, Leeds are due to hold a recruitment meeting on Monday to assess the attackers, but a rival bid of £20m could overtake them this window despite their desire to secure promotion this year.
