Nets trade point guard Dennis Schroder to Warriors
Las Vegas – Added by Dennis Schroeder, Golden State Warriors I think they have found the perfect backcourt mate to complement Stephen Curry.
Golden State has signed Schroder to a trade Brooklyn Nets The teams announced on Sunday the exchange for injured guard De'Anthony Milton and goaltender Reece Beckman.
“I'm thrilled. I told Dennis today that he's kicked me on three different continents,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “You can't beat them, get into them – 22 playoff games, I thought he was great against us with the Lakers. I watched him at FIBA the last two summers, and we played them in London in an exhibition game. He's a great player.” A player, he's a competitor, a pick-and-roll player, a two-way player.”
Schroder is expected to join the team on Monday to undergo his physical examination and do some training before Thursday's game in Memphis.
Kerr said he and his staff will debate Schroder's role, but they view him as a potential starter considering “we've been changing our starting lineup almost every night, looking.”
The trade was agreed on Saturday. League rules did not allow the deal to become official until Sunday, when Milton's contract became eligible for transfer.
Also in the trade: a slew of second-round picks. Golden State will get a second-rounder next year (a top-37 protected pick that originally belongs to Miami) and Brooklyn will get three second-rounders — in 2026 and 2028 (both via Atlanta) and Golden State's pick in 2029.
Schroder has averaged 18.4 points and 6.6 assists this season for the Nets, who are ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference. But the trade doesn't give them much help on the field this year: Milton will be out for the rest of the season while recovering from surgery to repair his left ACL.
“Losing Milt was a huge loss,” Kerr said. “I want to thank De'Anthony and Reece Beekman for everything – their contributions, their commitment and their efforts. It's always difficult to trade people and we wish them luck. But you've got to do what you've got to do in order to get better and this was a move we felt made perfect sense, so it will complement what “Milt was what he did for us in terms of being able to play on or off the ball, an excellent defender, long wingspan, he's a guy who steals the ball, forces turnovers, speed, everything we need we feel he can provide.”
Beckman has scored two points in two games with Golden State this season.
The move gives the Warriors, who enter Sunday fifth in the Western Conference at 14-10, another shooter to pair with Curry, who leads in 3-pointers. Schroder is hitting 2.5 3-pointers per game this season and shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc — both career bests.
Golden State became Schroder's eighth team during his 12 seasons in the NBA. He had stints with Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston, Toronto and Houston before joining the Nets. He also helped lead Germany to the 2023 FIBA World Cup title.
“It's a great pickup for the Warriors, he's a veteran who understands how to win,” Dallas coach Jason Kidd said.
